Toilet Odor Removal

    Regular Cleanings

    • To keep odors from building up, quickly clean the toilet every day or every other day. A quick clean might involve squirting a bit of toilet cleaner inside the bowl and scrubbing gently with a toilet brush.

    Deep Cleaning

    • Once every week, give the toilet a deep clean to thoroughly remove stains and odors. Toiletology 101 recommends lowering the water level and thoroughly spraying the inside and outside of the toilet with a cleaner/disinfectant. Let the cleaner sit for at least 10 minutes, then scrub with a brush or pumice stick.

    Home Remedies

    • If you want to avoid harsh chemicals, Old Fashioned Living recommends a few home remedies for toilet odor and toilet cleaning. These unusual toilet cleaning agents include baking soda, white vinegar, Tang orange drink mix, cola, vitamin C capsules and denture cleaning tablets.

    Commercial Products

    • Several commercial products claim to tackle the problem of toilet odor. These products include "Poo-Pourri" and "The Drops." When dropped or sprayed into the toilet before use, both products claim to form an odor barrier on top of the water, trapping the offending odors underneath.
