Survivor 11 Guatemala Episode 13 - Big Win, Big Decision. Big Mistake?

Episode 12 ended with Judd , an extremely strong contender, being blindsided by his own alliance and voted out by his own alliance, led by Stephenie. Only Cindy and Rafe voted for Lydia according to the origianl plan. Judd left the Tribal Council vowing vengeance at Jury Time and hoping the contestants get eaten by crocodiles.

Still vulnerable is Danni, whose last ditch Immunity Challenge win and able plotting allowed her to drive the wedge into the alliance.

Lydia is up for ouster unless she can win Immunity. Since she hasn't won anything before now, will she manage a last minute save? By the way, does anyone wonder how, with never having won any of the food rewards, Lydia looks much as she did at the beginning of the show? And always neat and tidy?

In the next to final episode, the traditional challenge with an automobile as the reward, there's much strategizing afoot. In previous series, the winner of the car doesn't advance to the end. This is the "czar curse." Will that happen again? Following this episode, the final one will be followed immediately by the Reunion in which the Sole Survivor is revealed. What happens this time?

Episode 13 begins with the group discussion following Tribal Council, in which Danni rejoices ar her save, but cindy is unhappy that she was left out of the decision to vote off Judd. She says that Judd wasn't told when Jamie was voted out. Then she wasn't told when Judd was voted out and the similarity makes her uncomfortable.

The others, primarily Rafe, try to console her and she finally says she'll have to play the game the best she can.

Rafe is quite happy to be the only male left. He jokes and laughs with the women, saying that he's friends with them all and hope that friendship gets him to the end, where there are only males, so far, on the jury.

Tree Mail brings a set of car keys. The players are thrilled with the possibility of winning a car. Steph says she's never owned a car and Lydia would like to win it for her 17 year old son. When the contestants see the big, black 2006 Pontiac Torrent, they all but drool. Jeff announces the rules of the challenge, called "Second Chance," as it's a trio of previous challenges. In addition to the SUV, the reward will also include a drive to an archeologist's camp for an overnight stay with a steak, sausage and vegetable barbecue wit rumon the side.

The first round of the challenge consists of walking a balance beam to untie a set of macanas, or Mayan cudgels. Falling off the beam makes it necessary to start over. The three winners of this round will next have toss the macanas to break a tile, and the two finalists will go on to put together a puzzle based on the Mayan calendar.

Steph takes an early lead, but falls and then everybody but Danni falls off the beam and has to start over. Steph makes up her time and she, Danni and Cindy proceed to round two, where she and Steph break their tiles. In the last round, using different strategies to assemble the puzzle, Cindy pulls ahead of Steph and finishes hers first.

Cindy wins the car! She's absolutely thrilled, and when Jeff gives her the opportunity to take another player with her for the overnight, Cindy choosese Steph. But then, Jeff announces a twist. He explains that in the previous ten seasons of Survivor, none of the winners of the cars have gone on to the final round. Right then and there, he gives Cindy the chance to break the car curse. If she chooses to give up the car, she still gets the overnight reward, and each of the other players will get their own Pontiac Torrent. If she chooses to keep her car, then the others get nothing. Four more black Torrents arrive on the scene.

What a decision to have to make! This is the "Big Win, Big Decision." Will Cindy make a "Big Mistake?" Cindy battles with the decision, while Rafe, Danni, Lydia and Steph look hopeful, but in the end, she chooses to keep the car for herself, saying "Screw the curse. I can win a car and a million dollars if I play my cards right. I'm here to beat the odds, and so far I have."

She and Steph ride off in the car. They're oohing and ahhing over the car on the drive to the camp. Once there, they're met by Federico, the archeologist who leads them to the feast waiting for them. They invite him back for a drink later. Steph and Cindy chortle, saying "Chicks rule," and Steph tells Cindy she made the right decision, one she herself would have made. They toast each other, grill their food and discuss Cindy's decision. Cindy feels bad about her decision, and says she hopes nobody is bitter about it.

Oh, but they are! Rafe is shocked. He doesn't agree with Cindy's decision and says that if for no other reason, giving away the cars would have guaranteed no one would vote her out. Danni says she too would have given away the cars. There's a lot of mumbling in camp about lost cars.
