How to Use a Chemex Coffee Pot
- 1). Fill a teakettle or dipper with water. Place it on a burner and heat until it boils rapidly.
- 2). Remove a folded square unbleached paper filter from the Chemex filter package. Open the folded filter to make a cone. If done correctly, it should have three layers on one side and one on the other side.
- 3). Insert the cone into the top of your Chemex pot.
- 4). Measure out 1 rounded tbsp. of automatic or regular ground coffee or 1 level tsp. of loose tea into the filter for every 5 oz. of brewed coffee or tea you plan to make.
- 5). Wet the coffee or tea in the filter with a little of the boiled water so that you dampen all of the dry material. Wait 30 seconds. Pour in the water slowly so that the water has time to drip through the filter before you add more.
- 6). Lift the filter from the top of the pot and dispose after your coffee or tea has brewed.
- 7). Serve your coffee or tea as desired or put the top cover on the pot after the beverage cools and place it in the refrigerator to chill.
- 1). Untie the wood collar, if applicable, after every use. Slide the collar from the glass and set it aside. If not applicable, skip this step.
- 2). Wash the pot by hand with warm water and a slightly soapy lint-free microfiber cloth, Chemex coffeemaker brush and/or soft-bristled bottle brush.
- 3). Rinse the pot thoroughly with hot water. Air or wipe dry the coffee pot.
- 4). Slide the collar around the neck of the pot, if applicable, and secure with the leather cord. Store your pot.
