How to Strip a Speaker Cable

    • 1). Cut down the middle of the ends of the speaker cable with a utility knife, separating the connected sections of the speaker wire approximately 2 inches.

    • 2). Grasp the separated ends of the cable with your fingers. Pull the wires section apart until the sections are separated as far as needed. If you plan to strip all the insulation from the wire, separate the sections of wire completely.

    • 3). Determine the gauge of the wire. Insert one of the separated sections of wire into the holes on the handle of the wire stripping pliers, with the handles closed. The proper size hole will be the hole that is the next size smaller than the hole the insulated wire moves through freely.

    • 4). Insert one of the separated wire sections approximately 2 inches into the appropriate size hole in the wire strippers. Close the handles on the wire stripping pliers to cut through the plastic insulation. Spin the handle of the strippers until the stripper makes one full revolution around the wire, cutting completely through the insulation.

    • 5). Hold the wire, below the strippers, with your free hand. Grip the handle of the wire strippers firmly and pull your hands in opposite directions. If you are stripping the insulation from the wire completely, repeat the procedure, removing 6-inch sections at a time, until the wire is stripped of all the insulation.
