- 1). Open your iTunes media player after downloading it and installing it for free from Apple's official site.
- 2). Select "Edit">"Preferences" in your upper menu on iTunes. Click "Import Settings" on the first window page and select "Import Using: AAC Encoder." Click "OK."
- 3). Highlight a song you would like to use as a ringtone by right-clicking on it and click "Get Info" in the pop-up menu. Click "Options" and change the starting and ending time of your song to a clip of 40 seconds or less. Click "OK."
- 4). Right-click the song a second time and select "Create AAC Version." This will create a version of your song in Advanced Audio Coding, which is iPhone-compatible, and place it in your library directly under the original.
- 5). Find the new clip in your computer's library and change the extension of the file from ".m4a" to ".m4r." Drag and drop this new file onto your iTunes library and connect your phone to your computer to sync the new file to your iPhone.
