Proportions
- Before you begin drawing hands, you need to determine the appropriate proportions of the hand parts. Using one finger as the base unit for a proportion will help you. Joumana Medleg of the website deviantART suggests that you use the length of the index finger as the base unit; call this unit "IF." The maximum distance between the fingers should be the following: 1.5 IF between the index finger and the thumb, 1 IF between the index finger and the ring finger, and 1 IF between the ring finger and the little finger. The maximum angle between the thumb and the little finger should be 90 degrees.
