- 1). Reduce original paint by 10 percent, Sherwin Williams suggests, using the paint reducer recommended on the can. Reducing the paint dilutes the color slightly, which when applied will create a more even blend.
- 2). Apply paint with either a roller or brush. Use light strokes and avoid painting in lines. Instead use a technique called "feathering." To feather paint, use a brush that resembles a feather duster. Apply paint by twisting the brush in circular motions. This reduces the appearance of lines and will create a more even-toned wall.
- 3). Allow the painted area to dry completely, about 24 hours. Inspect the touched-up area in different lighting and from various points in the room.
- 4). Repeat steps if you have not achieved the desired look.
