How to Make Raindrops in a Painting

- 1). Paint the shape of a water droplet. Use the same colors to paint the droplet as the object it is painted on.
- 2). Darken the side of the droplet closest to the light source in the painting. If using watercolors, lighten the opposite side of the droplet by adding a drop of clear water or blending off the edge. Allow to dry completely.
- 3). Paint a crescent-shaped shadow in stark opposition to the light source.
- 4). Use a stiff brush or hard eraser to lift the highlight. Add a reflective color of the light source or an object near the droplet to add realism.
