How to Remove Permanent Marker From Marble

    • 1). Clean the marble with a stone cleaner. Apply the cleaner directly to the stone, and use a lint-free cloth to gently buff the stone with the cleaner to remove any surface dirt or marks. Rinse the marble with water, and allow it to dry.

    • 2). Apply a poultice paste to the stain on the marble. The poultice will penetrate the pores of the stone and help lift the marker stain to the surface. Cover the poultice with a sheet of plastic, such as plastic wrap, a split open plastic bag or a sheet of plastic drop cloth and allow it to work for an hour.

    • 3). Clean up the poultice using the stone cleaner and a clean cloth. Apply the cleaner directly to the marble, and wipe it up with the cloth.

    • 4). Rinse the area with water by saturating it with a wet sponge or cloth. Wipe up the water with a clean, dry cloth to avoid spots and stains.

    • 5). Seal the marble against new stains by painting the marble with an impregnating sealer, using a foam paint brush. The sealer will not prevent stains, but it will help impede them and make them easier to clean up in the future.
