How to Sell on Amazon
- 1). Know what you can and can't sell on Amazon. There are a couple major differences between selling on Amazon, and selling on an auction site like eBay. You can, quite literally, sell ANYTHING on eBay. On Amazon, you are limited to the categories of products that they provide for you. The major sellers on Amazon are books and CD's, although you can also sell electronic equipment, DVD's, musical instruments, office equipment, and much more. Also, anything you sell must have a UPC or ISBN number that you can enter into the system, so it is officially recognized in the Amazon system. If it doesn't have either of these, it cannot be sold on Amazon.
- 2). Create an Amazon account. If you already have an account, you're halfway there. Even if you've only ever bought things before, you will still use the same account. If you don't have an account, go to the homepage at Amazon.com and click on "your account" in the upper right hand corner. On the next screen, click on "your seller account" in the Marketplace box on the right hand side of the screen. On the following screen, you will click on the button for "no, I am a new customer," and you will also enter your email address. Follow the prompts to create your new account.
- 3). List items on Amazon. In your newly created account, click on "List single items" under the Manage Your Inventory heading. Select the category of item you are listing (book, CD, DVD, etc.), and either enter the title of the item, or the UPC or ISBN number, and continue. If you enter the number (the easier way to list, in my opinion) it will automatically bring up exactly which product you are listing. If you enter the name of the item, you will have a list of matches to choose from. Pick whichever one fits the description of your item best. In the next section, pick the description that best describes the condition of the item (for a definition of each description, click on "condition guidelines"), and add any comments you feel necessary. On the following screen, list the item at whatever price you feel appropriate. Amazon will not charge you a listing fee, but will instead take a small percentage of the total sale cost. They will also provide you with a shipping allowance for each item you sell. Click to continue on to the next screen and confirm your listing.
- 4). List more items. Once you have finished listing your first item, the rest is repetition. You can list as many or as few items as you wish. When a shopper searches Amazon.com for an item, yours will be listed with the rest of the inventory they carry, and if yours is chosen, Amazon will send you an email with the information about shipment and payment. You can link whichever bank account you wish to the Amazon account, and you will receive payment once every two weeks for the items you've sold.
