It's February, and that means it's time to start voting for the Readers' Choice Awards 2011. We made it through the nomination process, and I want to thank everyone who submitted nominations.

Now it's time to vote to decide the winners of the Readers' Choice Awards 2011.

How We Selected the Finalists


We went through each nomination category, making sure the products or services that were nominated met the requirements for the category. We chose between three and five nominees from each category, based on the number of nominations we received.

With the top finalists selected, it's time to vote to decide the winners of the Readers' Choice Awards 2011. The voting period starts on February 11th and ends on March 8th. The winners will be announced on March 15th

There will be one winner from each of the seven categories for the About: Macs portion of the Readers' Choice Awards. Each category has its own page, so you can start here, and click through the pages to cast your votes.

If you feel like jumping around, or you only want to vote for a few categories, that's OK, too. You can use the Category Jump List to get right to a particular software or product category.

Cocktail was one of the original OS X utilities that let users gain access to some of the Mac's hidden capabilities. It has since evolved into a general-purpose utility that can help you keep your Mac in tip-top shape by giving you easy access to many of OS X's built-in maintenance tools.

Onyx is a system tweaking tool that allows you to access many of the hidden features of your Mac. Along with its tweaking abilities, Onyx offers maintenance tools, log access, even the ability to check a hard drive's S.M.A.R.T. status and verify volume structures.

QuickSilver is an application launcher that provides a fast way to gain access to applications or files on your Mac. QuickSilver runs in the background, waiting for specific keystrokes to activate it. Once activated, it will find and launch just about anything you can type into its search field.

ChronoSync is a data management system for the Mac that allows you to perform backups, synchronize files with other devices, create bootable backups, and archive files so you can recover important documents, even if they have been deleted. ChronoSync does a lot, including backing up or syncing remote devices on scheduled basis.

CrashPlan is fundamentally an online backup service, but it can also use local destinations, such as a folder, a drive, or even a computer on your network, as a backup destination. CrashPlan's ability to back up data both locally and in the cloud is an attractive solution for individuals who need or want off-site backups.

SuperDuper from Shirt Pocket Software takes what for many is a difficult problem (making a bootable backup of a startup drive), and turns it into a simple, repeatable process that encourages you to keep your data backed up.

Firefox from Mozilla is one of the leading web browsers, regardless of computing platform. It offers extensive compatibility with web sites, and is no slouch in performance.

Safari is Apple's default web browser; it ships with every copy of OS X. Safari offers many unique features, including thumbnail displays of your Top Sites. In addition, Safari is fast, one of the top performers in rendering a web site.
