- 1). Verify that you have an Internet connection and launch iTunes. If iTunes displays a message offering to install the latest version of iTunes, click "Download iTunes" and allow it to upgrade the iTunes software.
- 2). Plug one end of your iPhone's USB cable into a free USB slot on your computer. Plug the other end of the cable into the bottom of the iPhone. An iPhone icon will appear in Itunes on the left side of the screen in the iTunes source list.
- 3). Click the iPhone icon to select it, and then click the "Summary" tab.
- 4). Click "Check for Update." ITunes will check for newer versions of the firmware. When it finishes you will see an "Upgrade" button and a "Restore" button.
- 5). Click the "Restore" button. Itunes will restore the iPhone's firmware and its default settings. When the restore operation finishes, iTunes will ask if you want to restore your preferences and settings. Click "Yes" if you want to restore those settings, and wait for iTunes to update the iPhone.
