Inca Trail Information

    Size

    • The Inca Trail covers 45 kilometers and reaches altitudes as high as 4,200 meters. It begins in Cusco, Peru and ends in the "Lost City of the Incas," Machu Picchu.

    Scenery

    • There is a variety of scenery to see while trekking through the Inca Trail. These include cloud-forest atmospheres on the mountains, sub-tropical jungles at lower altitudes and old Inca ruins throughout.

    Treks

    • There are three main treks on the Inca Trail. The traditional is a four-day hike and there is also a shorter two-day and longer seven-day hike available.

    Weather

    • The best months to see the Inca Trail are May through September, when it is dry and sunny. June/September weather can still be a little cold, though, at night.

    Trek Level

    • The trek is a moderate hike throughout, meaning anyone in good physical condition should have no problem trekking. Easier treks are available should they be desired.
