How to Polish a Brass Belt Buckle
- 1). Give your belt buckle a ketchup bath. Squirt a small amount of ketchup onto an old cloth and rub it generously over the brass. As crazy as this may sound, it actually helps to polish the metal.
- 2). Use soap and water to wash the ketchup off of your belt buckle. If the brass on your belt buckle has been lacquered, ketchup and soapy water is all that is needed to polish the metal. In this case, you can skip the next step and proceed directly to Step 4.
- 3). Use brass polish on your belt buckle. There are a number of polishes that are made specifically for use on brass. “Brasso” and “Twinkle” are two popular brands (see Resources below). Use a scrap cloth to rub the polish onto the belt buckle, then use a clean cloth to wipe it off. You may have to repeat this process several times if the metal is excessively tarnished.
- 4). Buff the belt buckle. Use a yellow treated dust cloth to buff the metal until it is bright and shiny. If a dust cloth is not available, an old towel will work fine as long as it is clean.
