- 1). Pull on the chain to move the slats into the open position before fixing them.
- 2). Fix the blinds if they are not working properly by replacing the stem that carries the louver, or vertical slat, and the worm gear, which is between the metal tilt rod and the stem.
- 3). Remove the stem holding the broken slat using needle-nose pliers. Grasp the stem with the pliers and turn. The stem should just pull off.
- 4). Pull out the worm gear using the needle-nose pliers. Make sure the track is open before you do this so that the gear will not fall out.
- 5). Replace the worm gear if the old one is broken or worn out. Hold the part at the tip with your fingers, with the teeth facing up and gently shove into place.
- 6). Gently push the stem in at the bottom. Pull on the chain to make sure the blind operates properly.
