12 Steps in Raising Confidence in Children

As I get older - I recognize little traits in myself that are amazingly similar to my dad.
Little things - like the way I walk on the 'gutter side' of the sidewalk when escorting the lovely Katy down a street - or the way I handle a knife and fork at the dinner table.
And my brother Pip confirms this - even to the psychological level - when he talks about feelings and emotions that reflect his upbringing with dad.
This reminds me as a teacher and educator - how much children learn through imitation - sometimes on a subliminal level.
So, with this in mind - reflect and take on board the following 12 steps which will assist in developing a strong base of learning for your children.
1.
A child that is continually criticized - will tend to condemn others unfairly.
2.
A child reared in a hostile environment - could become violent.
3.
A child that is ridiculed - may become shy and introverted.
4.
A child made to feel a sense of shame - may develop a sense of guilt.
5.
Shown tolerance - a child will learn to be patient with others.
6.
A child that is encouraged - will develop confidence in their own ability.
7.
A child that receives honest praise for good actions - will learn to appreciate goodness in others.
8.
A child that is treated with complete fairness - will develop a sense of justice.
9.
A child that has security in the home - will develop trust.
10.
Approval of a child's efforts - will develop a respect of their own personality.
11.
If a child is treated with friendliness - they will respond by radiating love and goodwill.
12.
An adult is a grown-up child - therefore - it's probably a good idea to apply these principles to adults as well.
All the best for your health and happiness, Kevin Hinton
