- 1). Point your Web browser to Apple's "Identifying iPod models" website.
- 2). Determine the type of iPod you're using. Apple has made several different types of iPod since the first ones in 2001, such as the iPod Classic, iPod Mini, iPod Touch, and iPod Shuffle. Use the iPod model list to find your iPod type and click on it.
- 3). Read the descriptions of each iPod version under your model until you find one that fits your mode. Each version of the iPod either looks different, has different ports, a different screen or operating system, or a different way to access the music on it.
