Anxiety Drugs vs Herbal Remedies Lesson - 1

Prozac occupied the thrown for the cure of depression and anxiety for more than twenty years.
The most popular herb at the time was marijuana.
The culture was changing and what was once an embarrassing conversation became dinner party fodder.
Popping Prozac became the fad for the occasion.
What happened? Were more people suffering from depression and anxiety or did the introduction of an acceptable mind altering drug create legal demand? I do know a lot of people were getting happier, drug company executives were happier, wall street executives were happier, doctors started putting Prozac in their candy bowls, hospitals started pushing the stuff one pill at a time-more profitable, and lastly of course the end users were happier- huh, I meant to say the patients.
While under the influence nobody really cared about the side effects.
Mind you, this wasn't like having a few too many drinks and having a hang over the next day.
Some of the side effects of Prozac are suicidal thoughts, hallucinations, anxiety or panic attacks, and engaging in dangerous activities.
I've only listed a few of the many side effects of the drug.
But think about having hallucinations and then going out to engage in a dangerous activity, a double whammy.
At least you would die happy.
That's awful! My point is many people have decided to try alternative remedies and treatments to cure their illness.
Hence, we go back to our" roots", literally.
I am not going to explain the pharmacological pros and cons of herbal treatments.
I will tell you that I decided about ten years ago to go back to my "roots" and use herbal alternatives rather than the drug equivalent.
For example, I take fish oil tablets, garlic, grape seed extract, calcium, and a few other alternatives for my general health.
I have even tried an alternative for mood enhancement.
I had to get off it because it worked too well.
I know that taking supplements has worked for me because many of my vitals improved in the first six months to a year after I started, and that was over ten years ago.
My blood pressure and cholesterol in particular were improved after I started taking herbal supplements.
If your doctor isn't recommending that you go out and get yourself some Acai berry juice, don't get discouraged.
Decide what kind of treatment you'd like for yourself and don't settle for anything less.
If you want a doctor that takes a holistic approach that combines preventative care, find a Naturopathic doctor.
There are actually two terms you may not be familiar with that are often used interchangeably.
Naturopathy-which is traditional medicine that takes a holistic approach and combines preventative care.
Naturopathic-combines methodologies like acupuncture, massage, chiropractor adjustments, homeopathic and herbal cures, along with nutrition, exercise, and relaxation techniques.
These are sometimes referred to as alternative treatments.
How popular are alternatives? Sixty eight percent of people have used some kind of alternative or complementary therapy.
Today these alternatives are used in hospitals and integrative clinics around the World to treat anything from menopause to cancer.

The tides of traditional medicine have changed, but unfortunately some doctors and those of you on the receiving end as patients have not changed.
The problem--Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is.
Give me that pill now! No! Put the bottle back on the table and back away! Keep your hands where I can see them.
LOL! We could all benefit from herbal remedies if we would just take the extra time to work with our doctor's to treat us and not just medicate us.
I know for some of you, taking prescription drugs will always be easier.
But, the next time you have to bust that safety cap to pop your pills or give them to a love one, you should ask yourself, "have I considered other alternatives for my health or my love ones?".
So, if you or a love one is suffering from stress, panic and or anxiety attacks consider the alternatives.
Maybe you're suffering from have high blood pressure and high cholesterol, I've been told that blood pressure medications affect, oh how shall I say it- your ability to make Whoopi.
Ouch! Listen! I'm a boomer and my friends are boomers and anything we can do to hold on to our youth is like magic pixie dust to us.
Holistic non-medical treatments aren't just an alternative once you figure out that it works, it's a way of life.
