- 1). Put on surgical gloves and protective eyewear. There is little chance of explosions when making binder solution, but the chemicals in the solution can be dangerous if they get on your skin or into your eyes. Use extreme caution.
- 2). Measure out about 60 ml of acetone into a measuring beaker. Do not get acetone on your skin, clothing or porous surfaces. It will dry your skin on contact and eat through your clothing and porous surfaces.
- 3). Pour the acetone into your stainless steel saucepan and turn the heat up to medium. Do not use aluminum or copper; these metals may have a bad reaction to the acetone.
- 4). Bring the acetone to a simmer and add 6 ml of nitrocellulose powder to the acetone. Stir slowly and gently, allowing the acetone to simmer until all of the powder dissolves. Your binder solution is ready.
