How to Upgrade the Memory in a Latitude CPI

    • 1). Shut down your Dell Latitude CPI laptop. Disconnect any power cords, peripheral devices and network cables. Remove the computer from a docking station if it's connected to one.

    • 2). Turn the Latitude CPI upside down and remove the battery from the compartment. Slide the locking switch to release the battery, then lift it out of the compartment.

    • 3). Touch a strip of bare metal or attach an anti-static strap to your arm. Clip the opposite end of the strap to bare metal.

    • 4). Place your finger under the edge of the indent of the memory module cover. The cover includes an image of a memory module for easy identification. Lift up on the cover, then slide the cover toward the "Unlock" image. Remove the cover to expose the memory module.

    • 5). Slide the metal clips on each end of the memory module away from the center. The memory module lifts slightly when the clips disengage. Slide the module out of the mounting area.

    • 6). Place the new memory module over the slot so it lines up with the connector pins inside the computer. Slide the module into place and secure the metal clips on each end.

    • 7). Secure the cover over the memory module mounting area. Slide the battery back into the compartment until you hear it click into place. Turn the Latitude CPI upright and reconnect all of the cables. Remove the static strap and turn on the computer.
