Installation Instructions for a Wireless Card on an Inspiron 4000
- 1). Shut down the computer and disconnect the power cable.
- 2). Disconnect the cables from peripheral devices and remove all other external components from the computer.
- 3). Turn the computer over and locate the memory module compartment, which is the large square compartment in the middle of the base.
- 4). Extract the three screws on the memory module compartment cover and remove the cover.
- 5). Locate the Mini-PCI card compartment in the lower-right side of the compartment. Spread the retainers on the Mini-PCI card port.
- 6). Insert the wireless card into the Mini-PCI port at an angle and press it down into the compartment. The retainers will lock into the notches on the sides of it.
- 7). Insert the cable or cables (some wireless cards take a network cable and a modem cable) into the wireless card.
- 8). Replace the memory module compartment cover and return the computer to working condition with all its components attached.
- 9). Start up the computer and install any software that allows the wireless card to work. The card may come with a disc or with instructions for a software download. Check with the wireless card's manufacturer for the specific details.
