It may be quite cold in the winter but Minnesota is a state known for its natural beauty, huge swaths of protected land and of course, it’s lakes. When the temperatures warm up Minnesota is a perfect place to go for some real outdoor adventure. That’s why I’ve provided you with my top five RV parks, grounds and sites for the Land of 10,000 Lakes.  

Red River State Recreation Area: East Grand Fork

Minnesotans made the best out of devastation as the Red River State Recreation Area is the result of a catastrophic flood that took out many portions of East Grand Forks.


 They turned lemons into lemonade and now the area is a great place for RVers and outdoor enthusiasts. 85 RV sites are equipped with electric, water and sewer. The area also contains showers, bathrooms, dump stations, water access, playgrounds and a picnic area. 

The best thing you can do for the residents that lost their homes is truly experience the beauty of the area. There are plenty of areas for hiking, biking, canoeing and of course fishing. There’s plenty of unique birds and other wildlife that will be sure to delight all members of the family. There are scheduled activities and guided tours to find the best sights and sounds of the park. 

Grand Casino Hinckley RV Resort: Hinckley

Minnesota is equipped with natural beauty but for the RVers who want to see the beauty of lights and payouts, Grand Casino Hinckley RV Resort is the place for you. You won’t be staying in the casino’s hotel but that doesn’t mean you need to miss out on any amenities. Each site comes equipped with full utility hookups, cable TV and Wi-Fi access.

Facilities such as showers, bathrooms and laundry facilities received 10s across the board from Good Sam RV Club, so you know you’ll be taken care of. There’s also fire pits, picnic tables, shuttle service to the casino and 24 hour security on site. 

The RC park itself has playgrounds, pet walking areas and old RV park standbys like horseshoes, basketball and volleyball but the real action is at the casino. Expect plenty of slots and table games such as poker, blackjack and bingo. There are 10 fine dining options to choose from to satisfy the most decadent of tastes. Oh, did we mention entertainment? Don’t expect garage bands and magic shows as Grand Casino hosts some big name acts in music, entertainment and even sports like boxing. 

Stony Point Resort: Cass Lake

Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes and Cass Lake is one of the finest. Stony Point Resort is a great start for exploring this area in northern Minnesota. All sites come equipped with full features like electric, water, sewer, fire rings and picnic tables. The park houses clean bathrooms, shower and laundry facilities as well as group pavilions, dump stations, propane fill-up, a marina and even their own restaurant. 

For fun at Stony Point explore the shoreline, rent a paddleboat or canoe, go swimming, or teach your kids to fish in the children’s pond. Like many of our featured parks, Cass Lake is a can’t miss for some excellent walleye, northern pike and Muskie fishing on the 16,000 acre lake. This is also a can’t miss for mountain bikers as Stony Point is just a hop, skip and jump from the Chippewa National Forest and the Migizi Trail. Chippewa also offers plenty of opportunities for hikers and wildlife viewing as well. 

Itasca State Park: Park Rapids

This is Minnesota’s most popular state park and just one day here will show you why. Itasca State Park is not solely an RV park so don’t expect the most luxurious of amenities but the park does have sites with electrical hookups as well as water and dump stations throughout the park. Itasca also has showers, restrooms throughout the park. 

Itasca is home to the headwaters of America’s greatest river, the Mississippi and is open for recreation all four seasons. Anglers flock to Itasca during the spring for their share of walleye and pike bounty. Summer provides ample opportunities for fishing, kayaking, canoeing in the water, birdwatching, hiking, biking and horseback riding on land. Even in fall and winter there are activities for campers like ice fishing, snowmobiling and cross country skiing. 

Timber Wolf Lodge: Babbit

Timber Wolf Lodge is surrounded by over one million acres of wilderness and that’s no exaggeration. While you’re staying at Timber Wolf Lodge, you don’t have to be stuck in the wilderness if you don’t want as RV sites are equipped with water and electric hookups with dump stations located throughout the park. The park also has waterfront access with a marina for you to begin your Boundary Waters adventure. You can also stock up on supplies like ice, firewood, bait and more. Finish your day off with a steam in Timber Wolf’s Finnish spa. 

Timber Wolf Lodge is a great place to explore Minnesota’s famous Boundary Waters Canoe Area. The park itself is located on 2300 acre Bear Lake and right next door to all the flora and fauna of Bear Island. You can take guided fishing or canoeing trips, hike around the landscape or have the kids let off some steam on the water trampoline located on Timber Wolf Lodge’s shore. I recommend a two week stay at the least to get what you can out of this gorgeous slice of land.

Visiting Minnesota a trip every RVer should take at least once, during the spring, summer or fall and avoiding the snowfalls of the winter tundra.
