RV Camping Trailer Checklist
- 1. Check tow vehicle brakes, tire pressure, all engine fluids.
2. Check all trailer hitches and safety connections.
3. Inspect brake light connections.
4. Replace any worn or damaged brake light connection sockets.
5. Check all rear-view mirrors.
6. Check all on-board safety equipment: road flares, roadside reflector markers, tire jack.
7. Make sure spare tire is capable of sustaining the heavy load of the additional trailer weight. (Replace "donut" temporary spare tires if necessary with full-sized road tire.) - 1. Inspect tire pressure and axle lubrication (if applicable).
2. Check all brake lights when connected to tow vehicle.
3. Check all interior materials are properly stowed and secured for travel.
4. Inspect any on-board generators for proper fuel and oil (if applicable).
5. Check all on-board batteries for proper power (if applicable).
6. Check all lights, appliances and other powered equipment. Replace or repair if necessary.
7. Check all safety equipment: fire extinguishers, road flares, road markers, on-board spare tire.
8. Have duplicate keys for trailer both in the tow vehicle and with other passengers.
9. Check levels and potability of all water tanks. Empty, clean and replace according to manufacturer's recommendations, if necessary.
10. Check any chemical toilets and holding tanks. Maintain according to manufacturer's specifications and recommendations. - 1. Determine any special laws or regulations in all states where traveling.
2. Designate any noteworthy sights, exhibits or places of interest.
3. Find all applicable camping or RV parks along the route.
4. Inquire as to the availability or necessity for reservations.
5. Find all RV-accessible truck stops, service centers and rest areas along the route.
6. Find any low bridges or obstacles not accessible because of RV height. Contacting state highway departments will provide this information (if applicable). - 1. Check all safety connections for wear or damage occurred during trip. Replace and repair as necessary.
2. Remove all food from refrigerators and coolers. Dispose of any food suspected of spoilage.
3. Empty and clean all toilet and waste water holding tanks according to manufacturer's specifications and recommendations.
4. Inspect all lights and appliances and replace or repair as necessary.
5. Check all brake light installations. Repair as necessary.
6. Check all safety equipment. Replace as necessary.
7. Before storing vehicle, check tire pressure and axle lubrication for proper specifications.
8. Do the work now before storing to save the pain when wanting to get on the road again later!
