How to Replace a Valve on a Black Tank on a Travel Trailer

    • 1). Drain the black water waste storage tank on the RV through the drain line into an appropriate receptacle.

    • 2). Locate the faulty valve on black water storage tank. There will be both an inlet and an outlet valve. The one that is leaking will be apparent from the waste buildup around the seal where it connects to the tank. Put on the gloves and remove the valve with the wrenches by unscrewing the bolts on the valve flange in a counterclockwise direction, taking out the bolts securing it to the tank. Carefully remove the faulty valve and the valve gasket. Thoroughly clean this area around where the valve will attach with a clean cloth and detergent.

    • 3). Place the replacement gasket on the black water tank and put the new valve into place. Secure it to the tank with the bolts provided or with the ones removed from the faulty valve. Tighten it securely in place without crushing the gasket against the tank.

    • 4). Refill the tank with water and inspect for leaks. Tighten the valve as needed.
