Lunar Planting Guide

    Lunar Gravity and Water

    • The gravitational pull from the moon affects the tide as well as the moisture in the earth, making it a good guide for planting.

    New Moon

    • During the new moon phase, lunar gravity pulls moisture to the earth's surface and light from the moon increases. The combination of moisture and light encourages root and leaf growth. At this time, plant annuals like lettuce, cabbage, spinach and grains.

    First Quarter

    • The first quarter has less gravitational pull but strong light, which makes it a good time for planting squash, tomatoes and peppers. This is also a good time to mow your lawn.

    Full Moon

    • While the gravitation pull is highest at the full moon and moisture content is at its peak, moonlight is also decreasing. This means energy is at the root level, so plant root crops like carrots, onions and potatoes.

    Last Quarter

    • In the last quarter, harvest, transplant and prune, as the gravitational pull and moonlight become low. This quarter is a resting period.
