Determine Which Battery You Need

• 1). Turn on your iBook and select the "About this Mac" option under the Apple drop-down menu in the upper-left corner.
  
  
• 2). Click the "More Info" button and make note of the specifications in the "Hardware Overview" section. Pay attention to the model name, processor name, processor speed and serial number. You will also need to know whether your laptop is the 12.1-inch or 14-inch model.
  
  
• 3). Order the correct battery replacement for your iBook. You can order replacement batteries directly from Apple or from other online retailers. Be careful to note the differences between an iBook battery and a MacBook battery. MacBook replaced iBook in Apple's line of laptops.
  
  

Install the New Battery

• 1). Turn off your iBook and unplug all cords including the power cord and any external devices.
  
  
• 2). Turn over the laptop and place on a flat surface.
  
  
• 3). Turn the battery screws counterclockwise using either a coin or a flat-tipped screwdriver. This will release the battery door.
  
  
• 4). Pull the tab to remove the battery.
  
  
• 5). Insert the new battery, close the battery door and secure by turning the screws clockwise. Turn the computer on and reconnect any cables.
