How to Draw a Vocaloid

    • 1). Practice drawing the basic outline of your character quickly. Do not try to create a finished picture. Focus on becoming comfortable drawing the Vocaloid character. Draw the character from different angles and don't erase any mistakes you make. Continue to practice until you feel comfortable creating your drawing.

    • 2). Sketch the rough draft of your character. Create a circle to map out the character's head. Draw a vertical line down the center of the head to map out the facial features. Sketch a line extending from the bottom of the circle to map out the spine. Draw two squares along the spine to create the torso and hips of your character. Then draw two lines extending from the torso and two lines extending from the hips to map the arms and legs of your character.

    • 3). Draw the basic outline of your Vocaloid character using your rough draft as a guide. Start by drawing the shape of the character's face. Sketch the cheeks of the character round and the chin pointed and small, to capture the likeness of the Vocaloid drawing style. Each Vocaloid character's face will use this basic shape. Draw the outline of the character's hair onto the head. Create the outline of the clothing and body starting from the neck downward. Make sure the legs and arms of the character are long and thin.

    • 4). Draw the details of the character's face and clothing. Sketch the character's eyes following the vertical guideline drawn previously. Make the eyes large and round. Review your reference picture and adjust the shape of the eyes to capture the likeness of your character. Pencil a dot below the eyes to create the nose and draw the mouth using the nose as a guide. Sketch any details onto the character's clothing such as neckties, color patterns, skirt frills, head pieces, and bows. Press lightly with your pencil and work slowly.

    • 5). Erase the markings of your rough draft. Draw folds into the character's clothing for a realistic look. Review your drawing for any final mistakes found. Erase extra smudges and pencil markings found in your picture. Trace over your lines with a black pen. Erase all your pencil markings for a professional look. Shade in the dark portions of your character's clothing using a cross hatching method with your pencil.
