List of Trees With Durable Wood

    Common Ash

    • Common ash, or Fraxinus excelsior, is used to make baseball bats in the United States and bows and arrows in Egypt. This tree can grow near 150 feet tall throughout Europe, Africa and the United States. Other uses for common ash include weapon handles, gates, furniture, wheel rims and even aircraft wings during World War II.

    Turkey Oak

    • The turkey oak features long thin leaves and acorns and is commonly found in Florida and other warm, wet parts of the United States. Although wood from the turkey oak is often used for fuel and charcoal, in the past the red-tinted wood was used for flooring and construction. This tree grows up to 30 feet at maturity.

    Yellow Birch

    • Growing up to 70 feet tall in full sun or partial shade, the yellow birch is native to North America. This wood is used for furniture, kitchen cabinetry, flooring, paneling and some children's toys. This wood has better bending qualities than other hardwoods and features a bright and warm color.

    Acacia

    • Acacia is used in a number of consumer products, since its gum has bacteria- inhibiting properties that help preserve food and drink. Acacia wood is also very strong and is used in the manufacture of flooring, as well as the construction of musical instruments, bows, arrows and tool handles. Acacia is also often used in the production of charcoal.

    Mahogany

    • Mahogany is one of the densest woods available today and is so strong that it often dulls the tools used to shape it. Mahogany wood is used to make luxury furniture, flooring, cabinets and other furniture that is designed to last a lifetime.

    Brazilian Cherry Wood

    • Used because of its hardness and its rich brownish red tint, Brazilian cherry wood is both durable and beautiful. The wood is difficult to cut because of its density and is most often used to make simple cut planks and boards for furniture or flooring.
