Do-it-Yourself Nameplate Stands

    • 1). Measure the length of your nameplate and cut your oak board to this length using your miter saw.

    • 2). Set the fence on the table saw 2 inches away from the blade. Measure the distance from the bottom of the letters on the nameplate to the bottom edge of the plate. Position the top of the blade at this measurement and angle it at a 72-degree angle towards the fence.

    • 3). Run the board across the blade so the 2-by-3 inch surface ends up with an 1/8-inch groove that is 8 inches across the board. Use the fence as a guide and the push-stick to push it through. Some nameplates are thicker than 1/8-inch. If this is the case, Move the fence 1/16-inch closer to the blade and repeat this step.

    • 4). Sand down the board down with the medium-grade and then the fine-grade sandpaper. Wipe it clean with the tack cloth. Apply the wood stain. Let the nameplate stand dry according to instructions.

    • 5). Set your nameplate in the stand so the name on the plate is angled upwards. Have it facing away from you when you sit at your desk.
