How to Make a Monkey With Rockford Red Heel Socks
- 1). Turn both socks inside out. Make sure the socks are clean and dry before you start.
- 2). Lay one sock down with the heel flat on the bottom of your work surface. With this step done properly, you should not see any of the heel from the top. Have the sock opening (top of the sock) at the top of your work area with the toe of the sock closest to you.
- 3). Measure 1 1/2 inches up from the heel and put a dot in the center of the width of the sock. Measure up another 1 1/2 inches. Then measure 1/4 inch on both sides from the dot and put a mark. Sew a seam up from those two marks to almost the top of the sock. Finish up the seams by rounding off the ends by making a half circle toward the nearest outer edge of the sock. The half circle will become the sock monkey's feet.
- 4). Cut the sock from the top of the sock down to the dot you placed in the middle of Step 3. You will be cutting the space between the sock monkey's legs to separate them. You are cutting 1 1/2 inches beyond where you started sewing the seam. This is the opening where you are going to stuff the monkey.
- 5). Turn the sock right side out using the hole in between the sock monkey's legs. Stuff the sock monkey's body and legs with the stuffing. If necessary, use a pencil to push the stuffing down into the legs all the way to the ends. When finished stuffing, turn the raw, unsewn edges into the sock monkey's body. Stitch the opening closed.
- 6). Fold the second sock so you see the sock's profile. With the sock folded properly, you should see half of the sock from the side view, including half of the heel and toe. Lay the sock down on your work surface with the sock toe closest to you and the opening at the top, furthest away from you.
- 7). Make a straight line across the sock, just above where the heel ends to divide the sock into the top section and the foot section. Cut along this line.
- 8). Cut the top section of the sock straight down the middle. These two pieces are going to be the sock monkey's arms. Sew a seam down the long edge starting at the bottom and working up toward the white top. Just like with the feet, round the white ends for the monkey's hands. Do this with both pieces, leaving the bottom end open for stuffing. Stuff both of the arms and sew onto the monkey's body in the appropriate place.
- 9). Following the contour of the foot part of the sock, draw a line starting at the top by the heel working down to the toe, dividing the sock foot down the middle. When you get to the toe of the sock, curve the line downward so that it ends in a point. This is for the curve on the tip of the monkey's tail. Cut along this line. Set the bottom part with the heel aside.

Sew a seam along the entire edge of the top part of the foot section, leaving the very top open for stuffing. This is the monkey's tail. Stuff, using the pencil if needed to push the stuffing to the very end of the tail. Sew it onto the monkey's body in the appropriate place. - 11
Cut out the heel of the sock from the bottom part of the foot section, leaving a small strip of brown attached to the white of the heel. This is the monkey's mouth and lips. Sew the bottom edge of the heel to the body of the monkey in the spot where the mouth should be. Stuff the heel section and finish sewing the top of the heel to the monkey's body. To further define the mouth, you can sew a running stitch with black or white thread across the middle of the red section to define the lips of the monkey. - 12
Cut two half circles from the remaining bottom section of the foot part of the sock. Turn these pieces right side out and sew them onto the proper spot on the monkey's head. Tuck the raw edges in and sew up most of the opening. Stuff the ears lightly with stuffing. Sew the opening closed.
