Barbecue Stain Removal

    Dish Detergent

    • First, blot up as much of the stain as possible, using a cloth or paper towel. Do not rub, as this can spread the stain. Keep a piece of cloth or paper towel under the stain to stop it from spreading to the back of the garment or onto other clothes. Dish detergent works as a natural de-greasing agent that will quickly remove barbecue stain. Soak the stained area with cold water, and add a few drops of liquid dish detergent. Rub the detergent into the stain with your finger or a cloth, and repeat until the stain has been removed. Launder as usual.

    Club Soda

    • After blotting away as much of the stain as possible, drench it with club soda. Continue blotting, then drench with club soda again, and let sit for 30 minutes. Launder as you normally would, and this should remove any remaining stain residue. For dry-clean-only clothes, blot the stain, then take the item to your dry cleanner as quickly as possible. Ask for further instructions on how to handle the fabric.

    Hydrogen Peroxide

    • Hydrogen peroxide also works quickly to remove greasy barbecue stains and prevent them from setting into the fabric. Blot the stain to remove as much as possible, and place a towel under the stain. Drench with hydrogen peroxide, and continue blotting. Pour on one more layer of peroxide, then launder as you normally would to remove any remaining residue.
