How to Make Ruffled Panties
- 1). Decide which material you want to use for your ruffled panties. Panties are traditionally made with cotton or satin. These are simple materials to work with for first-time sewers. For a more advanced project, you can use lace for your panties and your trim.
- 2). Choose a pair of panties to add ruffles to. If you're creating a pair of panties from scratch, trace out the shape of your favorite pair for your pattern with a pencil on a ¼ yard of fabric. Add an inch around each side of your pattern for seam allowances. Cut out your pattern pieces with scissors, and sew them together on a sewing machine. Trim off any excess material with scissors.
- 3). Pin your ruffled trim to the inside seam of your panties' leg holes and waist with straight pins. Pre-made ruffle trim should already have a hem that will give your panties a professional look. If you're making your own ruffled trim, fold your fabric over inch by inch as if you were pleating fabric. Sew your folds together along one side with a sewing machine. Create a hem by sewing your fabric over ¼ inch to hide your seams.
- 4). Sew your ruffled trim in place with a sewing machine, and cut away any excess with scissors. To minimize itchiness or nuisance caused by the ruffled trim, consider adding a cotton inner facing to the inside of your material to keep the seam away from your skin when wearing the panties.
