- 1). Pick a spot in your yard where you want to begin your compost pile. It is good to do it in a corner that doesn't have sun exposure all day.
- 2). Lie down a bed of dead leaves. Dead leaves are going to decompose quickly, so they make an exceptional start for your compost pile.
- 3). Pour grass clippings onto the top of the dead leaves. These are also going to decompose quickly.
- 4). Water the compost pile. This is going to help speed up the rotting process.
- 5). Toss the lemon halves onto the top of the compost pile. Make sure the lemon halves are cut open and exposed to the oxygen. This allows the lemon peels to rot and adds to the nutrients in the compost.
