How to Plant Peanuts for Deer

    • 1). Pull all the weeds in your field and rake the soil well. Break up any large clumps of dirt, and remove all the large rocks.

    • 2). Add 3 to 4 inches of compost to the surface of the soil, and work it to a depth of 8 inches to improve the quality of the soil for the peanuts.

    • 3). Broadcast the sprigs into your field with your hands. Broadcast about five sprigs per square foot so they will establish quickly and beat out weed competition.

    • 4). Cover the sprigs with 1 1/2 to 2 inches of soil. Spread the soil over the tops of the sprigs with your hands.

    • 5). Water the sprigs well for five minutes until the soil is moist.
