- Butter stains on upholstery can be hard to remove.Butter image by Cornelia Pithart from Fotolia.com
To remove butter or grease stains from your upholstery or rugs, remove any large amounts of butter or grease, then sprinkle with a coating of cornstarch, wait 15 minutes while the cornstarch soaks up the oil, then vacuum off the excess. Use dry-cleaning solvent to remove any stain that is left. - For grease stains on other fabrics, cover the stain with cornstarch and leave it overnight, then remove the powder and launder as usual. If this does not work, try another laundering product or talcum powder, which has a similar effect.
- Cornstarch can be used to remove grease stains from granite or marble too. Cover the area with cornstarch and wait 24 hours. Scrub with warm water and detergent, or wipe with ammonia, and then rinse and dry.
