How to Paint Balcony Spindles

    Painting Unstationary Balcony Spindles

    • 1). Screw an eye screw into one end of each spindle with a pair of pliers. Thread a 24-inch piece of wire through the eye hole and loop the wire back to itself. Make a loop in the other end of the wire big enough to hang on a hook or nail. Repeat this step until all of the spindles are thus equipped.

    • 2). Place a 12-foot-long, 4-by-4-inch wide board on the ground. Screw in a screw hook every 12 inches along the entire length of the board.

    • 3). Place two 8-foot ladders 12 feet apart with the steps of each ladder facing in toward each other. Span a 12-foot-long board from ladder top to ladder top with the hook side of the board facing the ground or floor. Secure the board to each ladder with a piece of wire.

    • 4). Hang one spindle per hook by the open loop end of the wire. Paint the bare wood spindles with a quality primer around all sides of the spindles using a paint sprayer. Allow the primer to dry. Sand the spindles with 120-grit sandpaper until the surfaces of the spindles are smooth. Dust the spindles with a dust brush and a tack cloth. Paint the spindles with a finish paint. Allow the finish coat to completely dry before installing the spindles.

    • 1). Scuff the finish on the balcony spindles using 150-grit sand paper. Dust off the spindles with a dust brush. Use a tack cloth to remove the finer dust.

    • 2). Mask off the top and bottom sections of the rails that hold the tops and bottoms of the spindles in place with masking tape.

    • 3). Dip a paint brush or mini-roller into the finish paint to be used and paint the entire surface area of the spindle.
