Three Types of Grass That Grow in Two Weeks or Less

    Perennial rye grass

    • Perennial rye grass germinates in 10 to 14 days. It is a fine-textured and tough grass that gives your lawn a deep green color. In addition to germinating quickly, it also grows quickly. These rye grasses grow well in different soils and do best in the parts of the country with mildly cool weather and damp summer conditions. It is also very durable and a good grass for covering slopes. It does not do well in extreme cold or dry conditions. The usual life of perennial rye grass is three years. Annual rye grasses also grow in 10 to 14 days, but only last a year.

    Tall Fescue

    • Tall fescue grass seed grows in 10 to 14 days. It is a coarse grass with deep roots that is durable. It is also resistant to weeds and diseases. A cool-season grass, tall fescue does well in sunny or partially shaded areas. It tolerates warm summer temperatures and stays green during the cooler parts of the year, with the exception of severe winter conditions. It is the most common lawn grass in California. Its life span is permanent and it requires low maintenance and infrequent mowing. Tall fescue does not do well in high elevations.

    Bent Grass

    • Bent grass is commonly used on putting greens on golf courses. It germinates in one to two weeks and has a fine texture. It must be cut closely, and watered and fertilized on a regular schedule. It also must be thinned several times a year. Bent grass is a cool-season grass that forms a thick mat and is deep green in color. It has a shallow root system and long slender leaves. The three kinds of bent grasses are Colonial, Creeping, and Velvet. Each has its own characteristics and texture, but they all share similar qualities. Bent grass is also permanent.
