How to Texturize Walls Cheap

    • 1). Prepare the walls for the skin coat of plaster. To do so, remove old drywall by spraying it with warm water and then by scraping it with a putty knife. Sand the walls aggressively with a pole sander to remove old adhesive and to scuff the wall up so it will adhere to the plaster.

    • 2). Apply a ¼-inch coat of plaster over the wall with a plaster trowel. Work to keep the walls as even as possible. Wait approximately 20 minutes for the plaster to set up.

    • 3). Roll over the plaster lightly with a paint roller. Do not press the paint roller hard enough to peel the plaster off the wall. Lightly roll it to create texture .As the roller loads up with plaster, exchange it for a fresh one. Allow 24 to 48 hours drying time.

    • 4). Paint over the texture with satin latex paint. Use a paint roller to roll the paint on. Go from left to right and overlap your strokes by 50 percent. Add a second coat if you can still see the white plaster behind the paint. Do not press hard with the roller as you can break the tips off the plaster texture.
