How to Use Vinegar & Water to Prepare Aluminum for Painting

    • 1). Boil a solution of 1 tbsp. vinegar and 1 qt. water. Use more vinegar and water if necessary, but preserve the ratio.

    • 2). Boil aluminum parts in the solution if possible. If your aluminum parts are too large to submerge in a pot of boiling water, generously sponge your painting surface with the solution.

    • 3). Allow your aluminum to boil, or leave the vinegar and water solution on your aluminum until the tarnish disappears.

    • 4). Rinse your aluminum. Repeat the vinegar treatment, if necessary.

    • 5). Sand your aluminum surface in preparation for painting.
