How to Assemble Bow Lanyards
- 1). Take the paracord in your right hand and lay it over your left hand with your palm facing toward you. Take the section behind your hand and lift it between your third and fourth finger on your left hand and then pinch it with your left thumb.
- 2). Hold the cord with your thumb, then feed it back over the first piece on your palm and under the piece held by the fingers of your left hand.
- 3). Take the end of the piece lying across your left palm -- the opposite end from what you've been using -- and pass it under the end you were just using, then over the piece held by your fingers, then under the piece across your palm and over the loop held by your thumb.
- 4). Pull the ends away from each other with a gentle tug. You should see a diamond shape in the middle with two pretzel shapes on either end. Keeping the rope looped around your left hand, pass the lower end of the rope to the right over the top of the knot and the loop, then under the knot from the left and up through the diamond in the middle.
- 5). Take the upper end of the rope and pass it to the left under the knot and up through the diamond shape in the middle. Pull both ends while you hold the loop with your left hand. Tighten the knot.

Attach the eyescrew or other securing device to the bow of your vessel. Tie the lanyard to the eye by passing the ends through the eye and tying them into a square knot. Pass the right end over the left end and under it, then pass it back over the left-end rope -- now on your right -- to the right and under it. Pull the knot tight to secure the lanyard to the bow.
