How to Plant Morning Glories on Chain-Link Fences
- 1). Dig a row 6 inches wide along the base of your chain-link fence. Dig down 6 inches and remove any large rocks or roots that you may find.
- 2). Run an emery board or nail file over the surface of your morning glory seeds. These seeds have a very tough coating that is difficult to penetrate. By roughing up the outside of the seed, you make it easier for the seed to sprout once planted.
- 3). Place morning glory seeds in a row along the base of your chain-link fence. Space the seeds 6 inches apart. Cover the seeds with 1/2 inch of soil and pat them down to make sure they are in contact with soil all around the seeds.
- 4). Water the seeds until the soil is moist but not puddled.
- 5). Watch the morning glory sprouts once they have come up. Morning glory vines will twist around while growing, looking for where to grow. Gently entwine the beginning vines into the bottom of your fence to train the vines in place. The vines will continue to grow upward and will eventually cover your fence.
