How to Find the Thin Plastic Strip That Goes Behind the Ribbon on an HP Printer?

    • 1). Turn off the HP printer and disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet. This is to avoid electric shock when opening the printer.

    • 2). Open the printer's top and you will see the paper tray.

    • 3). Pull out the paper tray and you will see the thin black plastic strip, which is the paper sensor arm. If it is dislodged, reconnect it to the printer. If the plastic strip is broken, you will need to repair the sensor by bringing it to a computer store or by sending it to HP for repair.
