Can I Join a Plastic Pond With a Liner?

    Patching Plastic Pond Liners

    • Plastic pond liners can be easily fixed by using a pond liner with special patching glue. First empty the pond and make sure the area around the tear is clean of algae. Using dry salt to scrub around the tear will help to break up algae deposits. Then dry the surface with a hairdryer. Make sure the liner does not get too hot. Spread the glue over the tear and over the surface of the patch and allow to dry until no longer tacky. Press glued side of patch over tear and hold for about 30 seconds. The glue needs 48 hours to cure before you can refill pond again.

    Butyl

    • Butyl rubber liners are one of the most efficient ways of fixing tears in plastic liners. Use uncured butyl and a butyl welder. The butyl welder helps to apply pressure and heat to the raw butyl and welds it to the raw edges of tear or breakage. If butyl is applied properly, it makes for one of the most effective of all repairs on pond liners.

    Pond Liner Repair Kits

    • Special pond patching kits are available in the market that take care of tears in plastic or rubber liners. They are easy to use and more cost effective than attempting to replace the entire liner when it is damaged.
