How to Troubleshoot a Zumo 550

    • 1). Reset the Zumo. If the Zumo 550 appears frozen or won't power on, reset it. Press and hold both the "Start" and "Plus" buttons simultaneously until the Zumo powers off and then back on.

    • 2). Charge the device in a different outlet. Charging problems usually are caused by the power outlet, the charging cable or the battery. To troubleshoot, connect the Zumo to a different power outlet, or to the computer with a USB cable. Allow several hours for it to charge completely. Make sure that the device is not charging in direct sunlight or temperatures below 32 degrees or above 102 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 3). Calibrate the screen. Change the sensitivity of the LCD touch screen if it doesn't respond accurately to your touch. Turn the Zumo off. Then press and hold the "Power" button for about a minute until the Calibration screen appears. Follow the on-screen prompts to recalibrate the unit.

    • 4). Fix problems connecting the Zumo 550 to the computer. The Zumo must be in USB mode for the computer to recognize the device and for the Zumo to accept transfers from the computer. Turn the Zumo 550 off, then connect it to the computer with the USB cable. The Zumo automatically enters USB mode.

    • 5). Change conflicting drive letters. If the computer is unable to assign the Zumo a drive letter, connect the Zumo to the computer in USB mode. Click "Control Panel" from the desktop "Start" menu. Click "System and Security," then "Administrative Tools." Select "Computer Management," then "Disk Management." Right-click on the Zumo drive and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths." Pick a new drive letter.

    • 6). Update the internal disk software. Download and install WebUpdater on the computer (see Resources). Open WebUpdater on the computer. Connect the Zumo 550 to the computer with its USB cable. WebUpdater will automatically search for updates. Follow the prompts to download any pertinent updates for the Zumo 550.
