How to Make Aerophone Instruments
- 1). Make a jug bass. Fill a large jug or bottle partially with water. The lip of the bottle should be fairly small, so that you can blow air over the top. Experiment with different amounts of liquid to make different notes. This aeorophone works on the same principle as a flute.
- 2). Make panpipes. Take the hacksaw, and cut the 1/2 inch-diameter PVC pipe into several sections of different lengths. Cover the bottom of each piece with duct tape, and duct-tape the sections together in a line. Blow across the top, just as the jug bass is played. Unlike the jug, panpipes allow you to play more than one note without modifying the instrument.
- 3). Fill the pot with hot water, and soak the beeswax for about 10 minutes, or until it is soft. Pull the beeswax out, roll it in your hands to make a 4-inch-long snake shape. Press the beeswax around the edge of the 2-inch diameter pipe to make a soft mouthpiece. Allow the wax to dry and harden. Practice playing by pushing your lips together and exhaling to make a buzzing sound. Your didgeridoo is an aerophone that works on the same principle as a trumpet.
