Artist Creates House Portrait of Historic Lansing Home as Gift to City

Too many historic homes are being lost today across the USA and once they are gone or destroyed or neglected beyond repair, another piece of history is gone forever. Lansing is no exception of course however I discovered an ongoing restoration project that sets a positive example for the city of Lansing and focuses on one of the most beautiful homes in the state - the Turner-Dodge Home. I decided I should support their efforts with my art, painting a pen and watercolor painting which I presented to Jennifer McDaniels, the city's coordinator of the project, as a gift to the City of Lansing.

Capturing the "places, faces and homes of America on camera and on canvas", Lansing was one of the stops of my Across the USA from the Eyes of an Artist.
The painting is now on display in the entrance of the Dodge House House.

Our cross-country journey, which started in Los Angeles five weeks ago and will end in New York, marks my re-emergence into the art world after two decades of global travels and social activism. My co-adventurer and husband, Bruce Goodman, a Lansing native, have traveled 4,000 miles to date, with another 2,000 more to go. My focus today is on promoting art for change. I first launched my artistic career in New Zealand 1976, after she abandoned formal art training and opted to learn her craft by capturing the beauty of the New Zealand wilderness on her canvas.

In addition to recording the scenic beauty and people of America through my paintings which are created on the road, I have been giving free art lessons to budding young artists along the tour route to raise awareness for children and art education. I am partnered with Free Arts for Abused Children so as to get this message across.
