How to Make Your Own Message in a Bottle
- 1). Fill a glass with water. Add a tea bag and allow the bag to sit for a couple of hours.
- 2). Pour the glass of tea into the pan. (Do not throw out the used tea bag.) Set the piece of paper in the tea and submerge it. The whole paper should be underwater. Let the paper sit for about five minutes.
- 3). Take the paper out of the pan. Attach a clothespin to each corner to prevent curling. Take the used tea bag and run it over the paper to make darker spots.
- 4). Gently tear some of the edges of the paper. Throw those scraps away or recycle them.
- 5). Let the paper dry completely, which can take up to 12 hours.
- 6). Use a marker to write a message on the paper. Write a poem, letter or verse.
- 7). Remove the clothespins. Roll up the paper and put it in the bottle. It will uncurl as it goes in.
- 8). Use frosted glass spray to spray the bottom and top of the bottle. Spraying adds a more decorative look. Avoid spraying over the view of the piece of paper.
- 9). Wait until the spray dries before displaying your project. Put a cork in the top of the bottle to prevent dust, bugs or moisture from getting inside.
