How to Build a Budget Greenhouse
- 1). Choose a spot for your budget greenhouse. Use a measuring tape to mark out an area that is 4 feet wide by 6 feet long.
- 2). Dig out the space inside the area you measured. Remove all grass, sod, rocks and debris that are in the area, digging down from 2 to 4 inches.
- 3). Place a rebar spike at each corner of your greenhouse space. Hammer in the spike so that at least 6 to 8 inches are firmly held in the ground.
- 4). Hammer in one rebar spike every 2 feet along the 6-foot sides of your greenhouse. Place spikes directly across from one another, as they will form the supports for your greenhouse.
- 5). Bend copper pipes so that they form arches. Each copper pipe will need to be 10 feet long in order to cover the 4-foot distance across your greenhouse and form an arch.
- 6). Place the ends of the copper pipes over the tops of the rebar spikes to make a curved frame for your greenhouse.
- 7). Cut out three sections of plastic sheeting. Each one should be 2 feet wide and 6 to 8 feet long.
Alternatively, you can cover the entire greenhouse with a single sheet of plastic, although it is more likely to tear. - 8). Place the sheets over the greenhouse one section at a time. Use clip-on clamps to attach the sheets to the copper pipes and rebar spikes. Put rocks or bricks along the sides of the greenhouse to hold the plastic in place if necessary.
- 9). Cut two pieces of plastic to cover the ends of your greenhouse. These will act as doors. Use clamps to attach them to the top and sides of your greenhouse, and weight them down with bricks or rocks so that you can easily access your greenhouse.
