How to Change the Stylus on the Record Player

    • 1). Get the proper stylus for your model of record player. While most companies that once manufactured record players no longer manufacture styli for those record players, there are companies that specialize in styli made to fit most record players. Locate the model number of your record player and search sites like Stylus Plus to see if they have your stylus.

    • 2). Remove the old stylus carefully from your record player. To do this, make sure you can really see your record player's stylus clearly. Hold the plastic housing of the stylus between the forefinger and thumb of your dominant hand and gently pull it forward and slightly down. You may need to wiggle it a little bit, but do not be harsh or jerky. Be as gentle as possible.

    • 3). Stick the new stylus into the position formerly occupied by the old stylus. You will feel (and possibly hear) it click into place when it has properly seated itself.

    • 4). Test your new stylus on a record you do not particularly care about. If you have somehow not mounted the stylus correctly, you do not want to test it on your favorite record and risk scratching it. If the stylus is in properly, all is well, and your mission is complete. If it is not, take the stylus out and try mounting it again.
