- 1). Thoroughly sweep the floor with a broom, making sure to get the corners.
- 2). Go over it with your vacuum cleaner on a floor setting (meaning, no rotating brush). Vacuum in long, slow strokes, with the direction of the floorboards so it picks up any dust and debris sitting the crevices between the boards.
- 3). Fill your bucket with warm water and add 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Wet your mop in it, and wring it very well, until it's just barely damp.
- 4). Mop the floor in the same direction as the floorboards, stopping to rinse as needed. Make sure to thoroughly wring the mop of any excess water each time. There should be no water left pooling on the floor.
- 5). Once you've done the whole floor, set a dry towel down on it, set the mop on the towel and push the towel around the room in the same pattern as before, drying off any residual moisture. Switch out the towels as they become damp.
